The artist wanted to share it with the people who could not see such a scene. The main aim was to paint a romantic, picturesque landscape that was unspoiled by humans during the Industrial Revolution. The artists painted more and more scenic areas as they were threatened by destruction and urbanisation during that time.
The Sublime
You will know when you see a romantic, sublime landscape painting because it gives you goosebumps. The paintings depict nature at its most violent and destructive. You will feel your heart race or skip a beat. When nature has its say, the human is nothing more than a tiny dot. When peaceful, a violent behavior is sublime.
